The right to vote is one of our democracy’s most cherished civil rights. Voting is how we choose our leaders and express our support or opposition to government policies. The year 2020 marks the anniversary of the ratification of the 15th and 19th Amendments. The theme for this year’s essay and video contest is “The Right to Vote: Milestone Anniversaries.” Students in the 9th through 12th grades living in the Western United States and Pacific Islands are eligible to enter. Entries will be accepted beginning February 15, 2020. Deadline for entries is March 25, 2020. Additional information is available here.
Please note students residing in one of the following counties may submit their essay and/or video for local judging: Adams, Asotin, Benton, Chelan, Columbia, Douglas, Ferry, Franklin, Garfield, Grant, Kittitas, Klickitat, Lincoln, Okanogan, Pend Oreille, Spokane, Stevens, Walla Walla, Whitman, and Yakima. The top three contestants in the essay and video competitions will receive cash prizes at the district level and go on to compete in the Ninth Circuit contest.
