Bankruptcy Filings Continue to Decline

The Administrative Office for the U.S. Courts reports bankruptcy case filings fell 24 percent for the 12-month period ending December 31, 2021, compared with calendar year 2020. According to newly released data, 413,616 cases were filed in 2021, compared with 544,463 in the previous year.

In the Eastern District of Washington, filings fell 32 percent for the 12-month period ending December 31, 2021, compared with the year ending December 31, 2020.  The 2021 bankruptcy filings totaled 1,512, compared with 2,224 cases in 2020.
