Bankruptcy Filings Continue to Fall

The Administrative Office for the U.S. Courts reports bankruptcy case filings fell 2 percent for the 12-month period ending December 31, 2018, compared with calendar year 2017. According to newly released data, 773,418 cases were filed in 2018, compared with 789,020 in the previous year.

In the Eastern District of Washington, filings fell 4.8 percent for the 12-month period ending December 31, 2018, compared with the year ending December 31, 2017. The 2018 bankruptcy filings totaled 3,549, compared with 3,729 cases in 2017.
